Harbor Fellows: A Dwight Hall Program at Yale

Supporting success in spite of adversity

Serving students who lack parental support since 2018

Headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut, Harbor Fellows: A Dwight Hall Program at Yale seeks to address the unique challenges faced by those who do not benefit from the personal and financial support that many receive from family, both at Yale University and across Connecticut. This identity includes but is not limited to foster youth, emancipated minors, unaccompanied minors, estranged LGBTQ+ youth, or those who lack traditional parental support for other reasons.

Students of this identity and other collegiate volunteers commit to passing on the skills and insights that were integral to their own success to juniors and seniors at public high schools across Connecticut who have been in out-of-home care. Advocacy for youth of this identity is also done on the state and local levels so as to pursue sustainable solutions to these problems too often neglected by government legislators. Additionally, distinct financial and administrative resources are made available to cover the needs these students throughout their postsecondary educational careers, as well as a volunteer housing network of 110+ units across the country to provide stability to these students on academic breaks at locations closest to their peers and support networks.
